I'm Katie Lea, an NHS midwife with over a decade of experience working in maternity care, and the person behind Good in Practice.
I've spent years working alongside student midwives, newly qualified colleagues and experienced professionals. And one thing I've learned is that there's an enormous difference between knowing the theory and actually doing the job.
Midwifery is messy, funny, exhausting, challenging and occasionally completely ridiculous. It's also one of the most rewarding jobs in the world.
But I don't think we talk honestly enough about what it's really like.
That's why I created Good in Practice.
A place for honest conversations, practical advice and the things nobody really prepares you for.
No toxic positivity. No pretending we're all superheroes. No telling people they just need to be more resilient.
Just real-world midwifery, shared with warmth, humour and a healthy dose of common sense.
Whether you're a student, newly qualified or twenty years into your career, I'm glad you're here.
